artist’s project for the catalogue of Manifesta 8 – the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, published by Silvana Editoriale
In 2010 I was invited by Alexandria Contemporary Art Forum (ACAF) and curator Nav Haq to make an intervention in the catalogue for Manifesta 8 – the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, in response to their exhibition concept ‘The Theory of Applied Enigmatics’. Across the pages of the book, I attempted to represent the impossibly complex relations between art, economy and history in a series of seven satirical diagrams made with pen and ink. I draw on sources as varied as alchemical engravings, the enlightenment era Wunderkammer, the Star Bucks logo and the design of the €100 note.
